Stewardship

Of all sectors active in the marine environment, fisheries is the one that is most directly dependant on healthy and productive coastal and marine ecosystems. In addition to their potential role as opportunistic scientific data recording platforms, fisheries can play a key role in other fields of marine biodiversity conservation.

  • Cleaning of ghost fishing gear and plastic debris
  • Marine Protected Area Nature tours

Capacity development and raising of awareness about sustainabillity is the first step to reinforce the competitivity of responsible and regulated fisheries. In the framework of the FEP Project "Fishermen, stewardship of NATURA 2000 at Sea", training of fishermen is developed in coordination with other training programs as SOSPESCA (www.sospesca.es), a Fundación Biodiversidad "Emprende Verde" project developed by CEPESCA (www.cepesca.es).
